Unique Ways To Sustainably Style Your Pieces For Fall

Climate change is turning our weather upside down. It’s getting hard to keep track of how to dress for the seasons without sacrificing personal style. Instead of buying new pieces for unpredictable weather, read on for new ways to style your everyday pieces for the transitional weather.

1. Tights for Style and Warmth

  • Level up your summer dresses and favorite short shorts by adding a cute pair of tights. This accessory is an opportunity to play with pattern and color pairing. We love dark blues, bright reds, and pinks to add personality to an outfit for any season.

  • Bonus: wear tights with your favorite summer sandals on a warmer day, or your favorite boots on a cooler day.

2. Bring on the Buttons: Cardigans are back!

  • Cardigans come in all shapes, sizes, and textures, making them an ideal closet staple as we move into a new season.

  • On a warmer day, a lighter and shorter cropped cardigan is your best friend, but on a windy day, a chunky Irish wool cardigan will make you one happy baddie.

    • Button it all the way up to get comfy, or just button one for a bit of airflow and a peep at the ’fit underneath.

3. Shorts with Unpredictable Tops

  • Wearing your comfiest shorts with your most unexpected tops is the move this fall. Try styling a cute pair of sweat shorts with a chunky sweater or a long-sleeve blouse.

  • If you're in chillier regions, you might not be able to get away with shorts much longer, so style your shorts with a pair of tights underneath, as mentioned above.

4. Garden Shoes, No Garden Needed

  • Garden shoes, rain boots, rubber clogs, and other waterproof shoes are *slayful* this season. They keep you warm, dry, and can transform an outfit from bleh to cottage core or coastal core, if that’s your thing.

  • Pair your rubber shoes with an unexpected look, like a long flowy dress with garden clogs and bright calf socks.

5. What’s THAT? A Hat?

  • Hats famously trap heat in our bodies. Add a hat for warmth, and suddenly your summer weather outfit is viable for the fall.

  • Crazy, funky, junky, patterned, knit; whatever you can think of, a hat is the ideal accessory this fall to keep the cold at bay.

    • If you’re thrifting a hat, make sure to toss it in the washing machine before you wear it. If you’re worried about damaging the construction of it, use a steamer to get rid of any unwanted pests.

Part of being a climate optimist is adapting to wonky weather. We don’t need to buy new things; we can use what we have and look good doing it. 😌
