8 Reliable Gifts For The Person Who Doesn't Want Anything

Have you ever asked someone what they want for Christmas and they’ve replied “nothing”? A mildly annoying (but susty af) answer that will send you on a futile quest for the perfect gift, because this person…actually doesn’t want anything. We interpret their “nothing” as “I have everything I need,” so we chose items that don’t fall under the umbrella of traditional gifts. These are sure to make their lives easier and better during the holidays.

1. A Home-Cooked Meal

Take the time to cook your person their favorite meal from scratch like this meal via Foodjars. Check out our Susty Dinner Party Guide for tips on making this meal an extra special occasion. If you’re not the best cook, take them out to eat dinner together at an old favorite place, or even somewhere new!

2. A Handmade Gift

Anyone would love a handmade picture frame or anything that you thoughtfully spent time crafting for them. They will shed a singular happy tear each time they look at it. Check out more DIY ideas from our founder (@thatcurlytop) series on tiktok!

3. Restock Necessities

Make your person's life a little bit easier and brighter by restocking one or two of their favorite products; you already know they love it! You can also choose to restock a few household essentials like these Baggu reusable shopping bags, their fave nécessaire products, or zero-waste hair products like Ethique’s bar basics.

4. Groceries

Grocery shopping can be expensive and a hassle. Take the time to go grocery shopping for them and restock their fridge and/or pantry. If you don’t have time or are not sure what they need, see if their local grocery store has gift cards.

5. A Subscription

Subscribe them to a service that suits their interests or upgrade one of their current subscriptions. Do they have a long Duolingo streak that they occasionally panic to keep up in a club at 11:59 PM? Subscribe them to Duolingo Plus! If they have a favorite writer or content creator, subscribe them to their Substack or Patreon so they can have access to more content. A few of our fave susty subscriptions are Trade’s coffee subscription, Scribd ebooks and audiobooks, and substacks like The Mole Hill.

6. Pay One of Their Bills

No one has ever been happy to pay a bill. Take some of the pressure off of their holiday expenses and cover their phone bill, electric bill, or any bill that they hate paying. You can even chip away at their rent if you can afford to!

7. A Shared Experience

Experiences are some of the best (underrated) gifts! If a band they like is performing nearby, purchase some concert tickets and go see the band play together. Take them to a play or a musical on Broadway or an all-expenses-paid trip to Coachella (this one is on our wishlist)!

8. Repair/Upcycle Something of Theirs

Sneakily fix that pesky little quirk in their home, repair the hole in their sweater, or turn one of their old pieces into a throw pillow to decorate their couch.

What gifts have you given to that person who doesn’t want anything? Did they like it?
