Shein X Sustainable Baddie: Our Latest Collaboration!

April Fools’!

We gotcha didn’t we? We would never collaborate with a company that is infamously known for creating tons of textile waste and their unethical treatment of garment workers! As funny as April Fools’ can be, the first of April also marks the beginning of Earth Month, which is no joke! Saving the Earth, much like comedy, is serious business, so we’ve compiled a list of ten organizations that you can support in celebration of Earth Month 🌱🌎

Although one of the greatest ways to help these organizations is by donating to support their efforts, there is significant power in sharing their messages with your networks and involving yourself in their communities.

1. The Nature Conservancy

The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental nonprofit working to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Founded in the U.S. through grassroots action in 1951, The Nature Conservancy has grown to become one of the most effective and wide-reaching environmental organizations in the world. You can support The Nature Conservancy by volunteering, attending their live or virtual events, taking direct action and lowering your carbon footprint, or (preferably and) by donating to their mission

2. Our Climate Voices

Our Climate Voices is a creative collective of young women, queer folks, BIPOC, and  disabled people humanizing the climate crisis through the telling of first-person climate change narratives. They believe (as we do!) that storytelling is an underutilized and vital tool in the fight for climate justice, as firsthand narratives connect with people on an emotional level and raise the issue of climate change in people's hearts and minds. Their storytellers have insight and wisdom into how to envision a more equitable and sustainable world. You can support their work by sponsoring a storyteller or donating to their organization.

3. Seeding Sovereignty

Seeding Sovereignty is a grassroots organization that works to radicalize and disrupt colonized spaces through land, body, and food sovereignty work, community building, and cultural preservation. By investing in Indigenous folks, communities of the global majority, and bringing queer and women-led, empowerment-focused, and intentional collaboration to the forefront of a movement to protect people and preserve our planet, they seed paths of land, body, community, cultural, and political sovereignty. Support Seeding Sovereignty with a donation here

4. Rainforest Alliance

The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organization working at the intersection of business, agriculture, and forests to make responsible business the new normal. They are building an alliance to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote their human rights, and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis. You can support the Rainforest Alliance by attending events, becoming a member, or donating to support their mission

6. Project EATS

Founded in 2009 by artist Linda Goode Bryant, Project EATS is a living installation, transforming vacant lots and rooftops into neighborhood-based farms that support farm stands, neighborhood pantries, prepared food, and community programs. 8. Acres of Ancestry

The Acres of Ancestry Initiative/Black Agrarian Fund aims to address the steady erosion of the African American agricultural land base. They preserve their ancestors’ value paradigm anchored in collective land tenure, spirit-culture reclamation, and ecological harmony. The Acres of Ancestry Initiative re-centers ecocultural traditions in collaboration with rural communities throughout the Black Belt region. Through storytelling, communal e-commerce, ecocultural heritage and textile arts production, and traditional knowledge retention programs, they support cultural regeneration and establish a sustainable funding stream to seed the Black Agrarian Fund. Many of these workers are often invisible to us even though they touch our lives every day through their life-sustaining labor. You can support their cause by donating to Justice for Migrant Women

10. Indigenous Climate Action

Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is an Indigenous-led organization guided by a diverse group of Indigenous knowledge keepers, water protectors and land defenders from communities and regions across the country.
