P.S. They have swim shorts too!

9.  Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman’s eponymous label is known for being susty, and her swimwear is next level. The brand uses 100% recycled nylon and polyester to make all of their swimsuits, which are entirely made in Los Angeles. Keeping their manufacturing at a local level helps maintain ethical labor standards and minimizes energy waste as well. In addition to prioritizing sustainability, Mara Hoffman and her team also contribute to community partnerships and support networks that support their brand values, such as the ACLU, Black In Fashion Movement, FabScrap, and Housing Works just to name a few.

10. Galamaar

Because Galamaar knows that most of its swimwear is meant for swimming in the ocean, they are committed to protecting this important ecosystem. By using materials that are made of recycled nylon from trashed fishnets, and partnering with the organization Greenspark, they are working towards improving our ocean’s conditions. Even more, they make their products at a small, family-owned, warehouse in Los Angeles to allow them to maintain fair working conditions for their employees.

Blackbough Swim, a small business that started out of founder Jemina Ty’s bedroom in Manila, has evolved into a fully grown susty swimwear brand. Blackbough is prioritizing sustainability by making its products in small batches in an effort to avoid overproduction and use 80% recycled materials. They also utilize as much of their scrap fabric as possible to make accessories like scrunchies and headbands. Their bikinis are anything but boring, making your beach day just as bright and bubbly as it should be.

Another brand with a local production studio in Los Angeles, but this one uses hemp and organic cotton materials to design their susty swim. Natasha Tonic, an eponymous label, was inspired to create swimwear that was better for the body and the planet. Hemp fabric is natural, durable, and can handle that severe summer wear and tear. Additionally, the label prioritizes low energy use in their factories. Their designs come in a variety of different style collections to choose from.
